A Gift for You

It's Christmas! What time could be better to talk about gifts? And I am not talking about gifts you find under the tree, even though I still feel giddy as a 22-year-old walking down the garland lined stairs on Christmas day to see the tree lit up and the presents under the tree. The child in me will never grow old, and I am totally a-okay with that.

No, what I'm talking about is spiritual gifts--God's gifts to you. As Romans 12:6-8 states: "We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance to your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead; do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do so cheerfully."

I bet you're thinking okay, great Maddie, I've read the bible before, but what does that mean? How do I figure out my spiritual gifts? Let me first remind you why I created my blog, actually let's simplify it one step further--the title of my blog is "Simply, Sincerely, Maddie." I like things simple here. The simple explanation is that your spiritual gifts are already wound into your life even if you feel like you haven't discovered them yet.

Look back at your life. What brought you the most joy? Where did you feel the most connected to God? Where did you feel like you were doing good works? What are you talented at? You see, God gives us desires in our hearts. He specifically places those desires in our hearts to help further His kingdom and transform the lives of His creation. We shouldn't be ignoring our desires, we should be listening to them. Our desires, our passions, our talents, our joy--these are the things that are the keys to figuring out our spiritual gifts.

As this year comes to a close and you're finding some direction going into 2020, I encourage you to sit with those desires, passions, joys, and talents. Where is God leading you if you only allow Him to take charge?

Simply, Sincerely,
